Speech and Debate ««
Students involved in Speech and Debate will focus on research and oral communications, including many of the listening and speaking standards identified in the ELA Content Standards for California Public Schools. Forms of speech to be explored will include the following: extemporaneous speaking, impromptu speaking, original oratory, dramatic interpretation, humorous interpretation, and debate. Logic and principles of formal argumentation will also be taught.
Speech and debate tournaments will be part of the experience wherein students will compete against other students in each of the six areas already identified.
One other very important note: Homework and other assignments that are incomplete or messy, illegible, torn, soiled, folded, wrinkled, tagged, decorated or otherwise less than neat will not be accepted. In addition, all letters and numbers must be correctly written or the assignment will not be accepted.
